Northern Towns |
The North is the most developed destination for tourists, it has numerous hotels, many of which are very luxurious. The coastline is scattered with idyllic bays where turquoise waters are edged with coral, the gentle sea and white sands are perfect for swimming and sun bathing. You will also find plenty of restaurants as well as a few shops and even a little bit of nightlife. |

Grand Baie |
This is the liveliest resort in Mauritius, along the coastal road you will find many hotels, restaurants, shops and nightlife. It is also a good area for water sport and many excursions can be arranged starting from this location. Grand Baie also has a lot of charm and character, a former fishing village, you will still find many boats moored in the tropical lagoon here, in fact this area is renowned for yachting, an annual Regatta is held here and it is possible to charter yachts. Due to the popularity of Grand Baie it’s also easy to find amenities such as banks, post office, pharmacy and a police station. A 10minute walk from the beach you will also find a large European style hypermarket selling international brands. Countless restaurants line the coastal road, most of which sell good quality and good value food throughout the day. A good choice of cafes and bars also exist along with a few nightclubs.
Local hawkers sell Mauritian food in small road side stalls, this is generally very cheaply priced and very authentically Mauritian.
Grand Baie is just a short distance from the beaches of Pereybere and Bain Boeuf. |

Follow the coastal road north after Pereybere and you will arrive in Bain Boeuf, this idyllic spot is slight more rocky than Grand Baie and Pereybere so less suited for swimming but it is a very plesant place to take a gentle walk with a wonderful view of |

Mont Choisy |
The beautiful beach at Mont Choisy, in the north west of the country, is one of the longest in Mauritius. Its beautiful lagoon is shaded by casuarinas trees, it is a very quiet location, an isolated paradise away from the resorts of the other Northern towns. To its south you have Trou Aux Biches, a small village which also has a beautiful beach. Here you will also find a few facilities such as a restaurant and a bank. |

Cap Malheureux |
In the extreme north of Mauritius, a few minutes drive from the beach resorts of Grand Baie and Pereybere, is this quaint village with its pretty chapel, worth a visit sometimes you may even be lucky enough to buy fresh fish straight from the fishing boats. |
